WELCOME TO MY SITE
My work never strays far from some visual reality and even at its most abstract holds a strong link to the material world around us. The portrait busts that I have done obviously have a most evident link, whereas my other sculptures take on their own life during the process of execution.
Rarely, if ever do I start with a drawing or fixed concept that I wish to achieve in the work, rather I start with an abstract idea or feeling that I want to pursue and the work metamorphoses along the way.
Clay and plaster are my main media as they lend themselves readily to this process of change so that the finished piece evolves and expresses my original motivation.
In my recent series I have tried to put aside all unessential matter and start from the basic essence of life, a seed. From there I intend to cover various aspects of growth along the path to possible eventual extinction.
For the bronze casting process I work closely with Stephen Melton and his great team at Spacers in Ramsgate. This allows me to have valuable input throughout the whole process.
